August 4, 2021 – GMM “Wildfire Prevention Plan”

August 4, 2021 – GMM “Wildfire Prevention Plan”

7:30 am to 8:45 am
333 Country Club Drive, Santa Rosa, CA

There may not be a more pressing issue for the health and safety of our community than Wildfire Prevention.  Mark Brown, Executive Officer of the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority will present an overview of the Marin County JPA that was formed following the passage of a 2020 parcel tax ballot measure.  Mark is a longtime resident of Sonoma County with a career in the Fire industry and is well versed in the strengths and weaknesses within our county fire suppression and prevention systems.  Joining Mark will be newly appointed SR Fire Chief, Scott Westrope, who will share his perspectives on how this investment could help our entire community.

The Environmental Committee of the Sonoma County Alliance has followed this issue since the failure of a Fire Sales Tax Ballot Measure in March 2020.  A new sales tax ballot measure is being considered to provide funding for fire suppression and Wildfire Prevention Planning.  In combination with efforts toward Sonoma County Fire Department Consolidation, this measure has the potential to receive widespread support and lead towards positive action to prevent wildfires that threaten our quality of life, not to mention our health and safety.

Our GMM’s are back to our regular routine of registration, buffet breakfast, introductions, and programs.  Pre-Paid members are automatically registered.  Our in person attendance is expected to grow each month as we get through the summer and get our businesses back to normal.  For those that can’t attend in person, remote access will remain in place for the foreseeable future.  The in-person breakfast fee is $25 and there is currently no charge for remote access for members and guests.
